As part of improvements carried out on the Salerno-Reggio Calabria section of the A3 motorway in southern Italy, Geosintex provided technical support and materials to the contractor SIS scpa for a series of soil reinforcement works, some of which carried out on terrain presenting a particularly complex challenge in terms of its stratigraphic composition, in an area subject to strong seismic activity. The soil reinforcement solution was adopted to create solid support for the road superstructure, guaranteeing both the stability of the roadway base and, after final greening, an optimum outcome on the landscaping front. Given the characteristics of the site, the Geosintex engineering department carried out stability tests in the field, static and seismic, and provided the contractor with EDILGRID geogrids of the appropriate tensile strength, while also specifying the anchorage lengths. Also, in view of the importance attached to works of this nature, the necessary support was provided on site during installation of the materials.
