To improve travel and transport connections between north and south in Sardinia, the ANAS roads corporation planned a new section of the SS 125 state highway, to be developed by lots. The lot between Tertenia and S. Priamo, around 5.7 km in length, would require consolidation works at 5 points provided by soil reinforcement methods, so as to minimize the dimensions of the road embankment where space was limited due to the morphology of the terrain. Geosintex provided practical support, conducting static and seismic stability tests so that engineers were able to advise the client as to the appropriate tensile strengths and anchorage lengths for the EDILGRID geogrids specified, as well as offering input during installation. The use of soil reinforcement solutions proved competitive economically and had a low environmental impact by virtue of the fact that it was possible to use locally available soils, and therefore avoid the need to bring in large quantities of aggregates from elsewhere.
