The East-West motorway connecting the frontiers of Morocco and Tunisia is one of the most important road infrastructures in Algeria. Lot number 4, on the stretch from Constantine to the Tunisian border, is situated in a mountainous area and runs between two escarpments subject to regular landslides, so that when the road was planned, 3 rockfall protection tunnels were included to ensure the safety of the carriageways.
To protect the concrete structure of these tunnels, Geosintex proposed the use of a non-woven geotextile made of PP, weighing 500 g/m2, such as GEODREN PPSEX500, which is non-calendered. This product offers superior resistance to compressive stress, which is important from the protection standpoint, but also good flat drainage capacity, since it does not undergo heat treatments, and this facilitates the dispersal of infiltrating rainwater. Accordingly, two essential functions are fulfilled with a single product, and there is the added guarantee of long-term durability.
