The southern extension of the A31 motorway in Italy’s Veneto region involved a series of measures on certain embanked portions of the roadway base, since many soils through which the motorway is routed did not have the geotechnical properties best able to guarantee long-term stability of the construction. Geosintex proposed the use of GEODREN W-PP 105 woven geotextile as part of a suitable layer configuration, which would vary according to the height of the embankment, so as to increase the load-bearing capacity of the foundation soil while at the same time cutting down on the use of aggregates, an essential factor in assuring economic and environmental sustainability of the project. For sections than 2 metres in height, a single geotextile was laid under the drainage layer at the base of the embankment; for higher sections, one geotextile was laid under the drainage layer and another above, with the addition of a non-woven geotextile, GEODREN N3, at the base of the embankment, serving as a drainage and separation layer.
