The soil-reinforcing geogrid
A woven geogrid presenting a flat structure and a mesh pattern, made of polyester filaments coated with a protective layer consisting in a PVC based resin.
Thanks to its minimal creep, EDILGRID® is the ideal reinforcement product: the combination of grid and soil generates a composite material with superior mechanical properties, greater strength and lower deformability than is the case with a normal terrain.
The product is available with a range of different tensile strengths, varying generally between 20 and 400 kN/m, although for special applications there are also versions rated up to 800 kN/m.
Whilst the predominant field of application is that of soil reinforcement, EDILGRID® is also widely utilized for reinforcing embankments or stabilizing the sloping faces of escarpments.
Use of geosynthetics in transport infrastructures
Where the EDILGRID® geogrid is used for reinforcing soils, it becomes possible to re-utilize local materials displaced during earth-moving works, hence saving on the cost of quarrying and transporting aggregates from elsewhere. Given its optimum resistance to UV rays, its availability in many different tensile strengths, and its minimal creep, this is a product with which structures can be customized and guaranteed long-term durability.
